Events at Gorse Hill 2011

 

30 April       Visit by Mayor of West Lancashire Borough Council  10am – 1pm

The Mayor will be given a guided tour of Gorse Hill in the morning where we will have the opportunity to promote our work.

 

7 May          Aughton Village Hall Display   9am – 4pm

We will have an information stand at this Village Hall fundraiser. If you could help us with this event please let Jonathan know.

 

14 May        Dawn Chorus at Gorse Hill      4.30am

Tour of Gorse Hill led by Graham Clarkson to identify as many birds as possible, followed by bacon baps in the Cabin at 8.30am. Cost £4. Booking essential.

 

21 May        GORSE HILL OPEN DAY

This is our largest event of the year. We need help on the day with refreshments, stalls, information points and so on. Please let Jonathan know if you can help in any way. You can all help with publicity by encouraging friends and family to come for a relaxing day out.

 

28 May        BBQ            4pm-8pm

A chance for volunteers and members to relax after the Open Day.

 

25 June      Butterfly Walk and Moth Identification

Join us to check the moth trap and identification at 9.30am or a butterfly identification walk at 2pm

 

23 July        Volunteer and Members BBQ

Join our volunteers for a relaxing social. Bring your own food and drink.

Tea/coffee provided.

 

1 August     Ormskirk Festival – Coronation Park    9-4pm

We will have an information stand, sell bird feed, bird feeders, nest boxes and wildflowers to raise awareness of Gorse Hill. If you can help in any way , please get in touch.

 

6 August      West Lancashire Walking Festival – Guided Tour of Gorse Hill

                   2-4pm

A guided tour of the reserve, open to members of the public. This event is publicised by West Lancashire Borough Council.

 

26 - 28 August        Volunteers and Members Camping Weekend

Arriving at Gorse Hill Friday pm and leaving Sunday pm, this annual event includes campfire cooking and working on the reserve on the Saturday. Contact Charlotte Chappell for more details.

 

10 September          National Moth Night     8-10pm

The Heath trap will be in operation and a brightly lit sheet soaked in sugar to attract the moths. Have a go at identifying these fascinating insects – if you are not scared of the dark!! Seeing moths will be dependent on the weather

 

8 October                Apple Day

This is a new major event of the year. In celebration of our developing orchard we will have apple tasting and sales including a tour of the orchard. 

 

5 November            End of Season BBQ

An eco friendly bonfire built on the day to reduce the risk of small mammals making homes in the structure. Further details later.

 

19-20 November      Bird Fair at Martin Mere

Volunteers help out with our stand at this interesting event. You can choose a morning or afternoon slot. Please see Su Haselton for more details.
